Learning objectives
- Learn how to plan anaesthesia for adult special care patients, focusing on risk reduction
- Describe the requirements, considerations and improvements for delivering a high-quality SCD GA service, including staffing, facilities, training, and future developments
- Understand legal implications of working with the Court of Protection, address challenges in treating patients under GA and coordinate multi-professional care for patients with severe learning disabilities and autism
- Consider treatment planning when undertaking dental treatment under general anaesthetic
- Understand adverse childhood experiences, learn to recognise common trauma responses in children and develop skills to provide trauma-informed care
- Assess and prepare at-risk patients, including those needing pre-medication or shared airway management, to minimize anaesthetic complications.
