Learning objectives

  • Learn how to plan anaesthesia for adult special care patients, focusing on risk reduction
  • Describe the requirements, considerations and improvements for delivering a high-quality SCD GA service, including staffing, facilities, training, and future developments
  • Understand legal implications of working with the Court of Protection, address challenges in treating patients under GA and coordinate multi-professional care for patients with severe learning disabilities and autism
  • Consider treatment planning when undertaking dental treatment under general anaesthetic
  • Understand adverse childhood experiences, learn to recognise common trauma responses in children and develop skills to provide trauma-informed care
  • Assess and prepare at-risk patients, including those needing pre-medication or shared airway management, to minimize anaesthetic complications.

If you feel at all unwell, we encourage you to take a lateral flow test the evening before you are due to arrive - should your test result be positive, we ask you not to attend.
