Medicines recall: Ponstan 250mg capsules and 500mg tablets

Chemidex Pharma Ltd has issued an alert regarding specific batches of Ponstan 250mg capsules and Ponstan Forte 500mg tablets (mefenamic acid).

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was informed that the patient information leaflets (PILs) enclosed in the boxes for these batches are out of date. The outdated PILs are dated March 2020 for the capsules, and January 2021 for the tablets. The affected batches include: 

  • Batch number: 23I114, 23I115, 23I120, 23I121, 23I122 
  • Expiry date: September 2028 
  • Pack size: 100 
  • First distributed: Between January and March 2024 

Healthcare professionals are advised to review this notice carefully, consider the implications when prescribing these medications, and ensure that the current Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) information is communicated to patients to prevent any potential issues related to the outdated PILs.
