Following initial mpox guidance published in August, the NHS recommends service providers to continue to stay alert of mpox symptoms in patients, and take appropriate action when necessary:
Actions if patient presents and appears clinically well
Patient should be advised to return home, maintain isolation, and contact 111.
Actions if patient presents and appears clinically unwell
The patient should self-transfer whilst maintaining isolation or transported by ambulance if unable to do so clearly stating the patient is a suspected mpox case.
You can find the latest mpox outbreak advice on the NHS websites. The advice includes guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE), considerations for infection control, how to safely assess patients who present with mpox symptoms, and how to plan their isolation. It is aimed mainly at a hospital audience.
