The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme helps ensure people who may work with children or vulnerable adults (all patients are classed as vulnerable) are suitable to do so. Members can read our updated advice on safeguarding patients to learn more about the following.
Important aspects of the PVG scheme
Understand at what stage in the recruitment stage you must carry out a PVG scheme and what to do when taking on new members of staff, and how to keep the information up to date.
Different types of disclosure
Not all staff require the same type of disclosure. Learn how to apply for different levels of disclosure according to job role.
Duty to refer
Avoid criminal charges by understanding the circumstances in which an individual has caused harm, and when you need to refer them to Disclosure Scotland.
Changes from April 2025
Soon, the system for disclosure levels will change from the current Basic, Standard and Enhanced levels. The appropriate level for disclosure depends on job roles and to what extent the individuals come into contact with vulnerable groups.
