Governments across the UK are yet to confirm the figure for the uplift to apply to NHS general dental practice fees and contracts

In July, the pay review body - DDRB - recommended a 6% uplift on NHS dentists' pay. This has been accepted by the UK Government, but the devolved governments in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are yet to make a public announcement as to whether they will do the same.

Alongside this recommendation on pay, the governments should engage with the BDA to determine an uplift to be applied in respect of the expenses incurred by providing NHS treatment. This should be done through a suitable mechanism. This is then combined with the pay uplift in a formula to determine the final uplift applied to fees and contracts.

This process is at different stages in different parts of the UK, but no firm conclusion has been reached. As soon as we have confirmed the uplift figures, we will communicate this to the profession.

We are clear that NHS uplifts should be applied from 1 April each year. We urge all governments to reach a swift and fair resolution with us, so that payments can be made without further delay.
